Everybody Hurts - Sometimes
(Taking a tumble at age 65)
Well, 9 days ago, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, I got ‘calf-roped’ by my two leashed dogs that leapt in startle from a sudden thunderclap, near the end of our morning neighborhood walk. My head hit the pavement and a huge bump formed immediately upon falling down as my feet were yanked out from under me in two tangled leashes. Every cervical vertebra of my neck instantly rattled like piano keys playing a scale.
The rest of that day, small amounts of spinal fluid leaked from my left nostril. For 2 days, my neck muscles were in tight spasm affecting movement and swallowing. A definite slight concussion occured that has left me in need of siestas after being up about 6-8 hours every day since. Yesterday, I had to excuse myself from my home town high school reunion, a 200+ miles drive each way.
One thing for certain, I’d be a far worse train wreck if I hadn’t had my BEMER to help recover from the muscle spasms and scalp swelling. The scalp bump is almost completely gone. Just still not a bundle of energy, but grateful it wasn’t worse.
Learn more about BEMER At https://daria-schooler.bemergroup.com and message me to learn more. It is my first responder for better circulation.
The irony of a retired neurosurgeon getting a head injury from two startled basset hounds is not lost on me.
Never doubt that God has a sense of humor.
Remember, Everybody Hurts, Hold On (especially to the dog’s leashes in my case).

“Everybody Hurts” by R.E.M was written by Bill Berry, Michael Stipe, Mike Mills & Peter Buck.
“Everybody Hurts” lyrics:
“When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone When you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang on Don't let yourself go, everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes
Sometimes everything is wrong. Now it's time to sing along
When your day is night alone, (hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go, (hold on)
When you think you've had too much of this life, well hang on Everybody hurts. Take comfort in your friends
Everybody hurts. Don't throw your hand. Oh, no. Don't throw your hand If you feel like you're alone, no, no, no, you are not alone
If you're on your own in this life, the days and nights are long When you think you've had too much of this life to hang on
Well, everybody hurts sometimes
Everybody cries. And everybody hurts sometimes And everybody hurts sometimes. So, hold on, hold on Hold on, hold on. Hold on, hold on. Hold on, hold on (Everybody hurts. You are not alone)”

Thank you for sharing. What a great paradigm shift; easy to read and relatable. Using an everyday ‘incident’ causing injury that could happen to everyone and optimistically viewing it in a lighter, more positive way is CRITICAL. Thank you for the reminder that things like this happen to everyone.
And they look so adorable and harmless, too. Hopefully, the CSF leak sealed itself up nicely. So sorry you went through that, Daria. Praying for full recovery and no more spills. Love that REM song.
